on

This quick and simple guide explains how to reboot a frozen Pixel 4 or Pixel 4 XL. If your phone is unresponsive or acting funny, a reset is the easiest way to fix it. Google’s new Pixel has a lot to love, but things aren’t always perfect.

While the best way to fix most minor problems is to reboot the phone, that’s not always an option. Especially if your Pixel phone is frozen or completely unresponsive. With no removable battery and on-screen software buttons, problems can be a real pain. So, if you’re dealing with any issues our instructions below will help you fix it real quick.

Instructions

This will not erase any data or information from your phone.

  1. Press and hold down the Power button on the top right side of the phone
  2. Hold the Power button down for around 10 seconds, or until the phone vibrates and restarts
  3. If the phone shuts down instead, let go, then press power again for 1-2 seconds to restart the phone

That’s all there is to it. Easy enough, right? Holding the power button down for a few seconds gives you the option to turn it off or reboot the phone. If it’s not working at all, just hold down the power button for a little longer and it’ll restart on its own.

Once you hold the button down long enough you’ll see it turn off, feel the phone vibrate, then it will restart and boot back up to full working order. And no, you will not lose any data, photos, or info during this process. This is nothing more than rebooting the phone, only you force it to reboot. That said, any apps or browser windows that were open will close. Some apps will lose progress, but that’s all.

So, if your Pixel 4 is frozen, malfunctioning, or just acting funny, give this a try. Personally, I reboot my phone once a week for the best experience, and you should too.

If your phone continues to freeze or have issues, consider seeing if a specific app is causing it. If so, try reinstalling the app. Otherwise, take a peek at these common Pixel 4 problems and how to fix them. Then, get better battery life by using our tips in this guide.
